Book a first session

How it works

  1. Choose a time in the booking calendar and pay online.
  2. Get the video link by email. Nothing to install.
  3. In the first session, your psychologist listens to what brings you and proposes a plan.
  4. If you continue, sessions are weekly, at the same time, with the same psychologist.

All times in the calendar are Lisbon time. That is the same as Dublin and London, and one hour behind Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Madrid and Rome.

Yes. Lon Clinic's psychologists licensed by the Portuguese Board of Psychologists (EU), seeing clients online from Portugal. Under EU Directive 2011/24/EU, telemedicine is provided in the Member State where the provider is established, which for us is Portugal. More on the rules.

In a crisis

Online therapy is not an emergency service. If you are in danger, call 112, the emergency number everywhere in the EU. Your city page lists local helplines.

Frequently asked questions

Is online therapy from another EU country legal?

Yes. Under EU Directive 2011/24/EU on cross-border healthcare, care given by telemedicine is provided in the Member State where the provider is established. Our psychologists are licensed by the Portuguese Board of Psychologists and see clients online from Portugal, where Lon Clinic is registered with the health regulator (ERS 45475).

Are the psychologists native English speakers?

They are Portuguese psychologists who work in English. You can also have sessions in Portuguese or Spanish. Say which language you want when you book.

How soon can I start?

There are usually openings in the same week. The calendar shows live availability before you book.

Does online therapy work as well as in person?

For anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, research shows results similar to in-person therapy, as long as you have a stable connection and a private space.

Will my insurance pay?

Public insurance in your country usually will not. Some international expat health plans reimburse outpatient therapy against an invoice, which we issue for every session.

Is it confidential?

Yes. Sessions are private and not recorded, and your data is handled under the GDPR.
