See this week's timesWho we help
International professionals, students and partners who moved to Denmark and want to talk in English, without translating their feelings into Danish. Common reasons:
- loneliness, and a social circle that is slow to build;
- stress and burnout;
- anxiety;
- low mood in the dark months;
- relationship strain after the move.
How it fits with the Danish system
In Denmark, a GP can refer you to a psychologist under the public health insurance scheme if you fall into one of the defined groups. The region then pays 60% of the fee and you pay the rest: about 402 DKK per session (rates valid April–October 2026). A referral usually covers up to 12 sessions, and more for depression and anxiety. People aged 18–24 with mild to moderate anxiety or depression can get free psychologist sessions with a referral. If you qualify and can wait, that is a good option.
Lon Clinic is for when you don't qualify, don't want to wait, or simply want a psychologist who works in English from the first minute.

How it works
- Book online and pick a time. Denmark is one hour ahead of Portugal: the calendar shows Lisbon time, with your local time next to it.
- Join by video from home.
- Agree on a plan and meet weekly with the same psychologist.
Our psychologists are licensed by the Portuguese Board of Psychologists (EU) and see clients online from Portugal. Under EU rules on cross-border healthcare, telemedicine is provided in the country where the provider is established.
In a crisis
Online therapy is not an emergency service. In Denmark, call 112. Livslinien offers anonymous support for people with suicidal thoughts on 70 201 201 (check the current opening hours on livslinien.dk).

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral from my GP?
No. You book directly.
Can I use my Danish health insurance?
Public health insurance does not cover us. Some private health insurance plans (sundhedsforsikring) reimburse psychology sessions; ask yours whether they accept an invoice from an EU clinic.
Is online therapy as good as in person?
For anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, research shows similar results, as long as you have a stable connection and a private space.
Lon Clinic is registered with the Portuguese Health Regulator (ERS n.º 45475).
