The further east, the more the prescription saves you
From Olhão, Faro is a short trip. From Tavira it is over an hour there and back, and from Vila Real de Santo António nearly two. Doing the in-person consultation in Faro on a Wednesday or Thursday and coming back another day for the vaccine costs a full day.
With the prescription from the online consultation, one trip is enough, on any weekday.
Tavira has many retirees and families from the UK, Ireland and elsewhere in Europe. The doctor adapts advice to age, medication and chronic conditions, and tells you clearly if anything needs to be checked in person.

Questions from Tavira and the Eastern Algarve
I live in Vila Real de Santo António. Can I get vaccinated in Spain?
Spanish centres have their own rules and may not accept Portuguese prescriptions. In Portugal, the nearest CVI is Faro.
I take blood thinners. Is an online consultation enough?
Usually yes. The doctor reviews your medication with the vaccines and malaria tablets, and tells you if anything needs an in-person check.
Do I need an SNS number (número de utente)?
Not for the online consultation, which is private. Some CVIs ask for it when you book the vaccine; if you do not have one yet, say so in your email.
Is the prescription accepted at the Faro CVI – Faro Health Centre?
Yes. It is a Portuguese prescription, valid at every International Vaccination Centre (CVI) in Portugal and at Portuguese pharmacies. Some CVIs ask you to bring a printed copy on the day.
How much is the yellow fever vaccine?
20 € at the CVI, paid separately from the consultation. The international certificate is issued there and becomes valid 10 days after the vaccine, for life.
