Travel vaccines by country, leaving from Portugal (2026)
English guides for expats and foreign residents flying out of Portugal: Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Kenya, Tanzania, Thailand and India. Video consultation, €39.

General information — it does not replace a medical consultation. Vaccination centre hours may change.
These pages are the destination guides in English for trips that leave from Portugal. A direct flight from Lisbon or Porto is not the same as arriving from a yellow fever country, and that is the detail most generic checklists miss.
The video travel consultation is in English (€39). The prescription is a Portuguese electronic prescription. Yellow fever, when it is needed, is given only at an International Vaccination Centre — not at CUF.

Quick table (2026 — confirm in the consultation)
| Destination | Often considered | Malaria | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brazil | Yellow fever (many regions), hepatitis A | Amazon and some areas | Certificate: entry rules change; the interior is not Rio or São Paulo |
| Angola | Yellow fever (often required on entry), hepatitis A, typhoid | Almost the whole country | Do not leave without confirming the certificate |
| Mozambique | Hepatitis A, typhoid; yellow fever if you come from an endemic country | Almost the whole country | Coast and interior do not change the malaria point |
| Cape Verde | Hepatitis A; yellow fever only if you come from a risk country | No transmission (WHO, 2024) | Direct flight from Portugal: no required vaccine |
| Kenya | Hepatitis A, typhoid; yellow fever in the Masai Mara | Below 2,500 m, including parks; rare cases in central Nairobi | Kenya → Tanzania requires a certificate |
| Tanzania / Zanzibar | Hepatitis A, typhoid; yellow fever if you come from Kenya or a stopover longer than 12 h | Below 1,800 m, including Zanzibar | Tanzania only, no long stopover: vaccine generally not required |
| Thailand | Hepatitis A, hepatitis B; typhoid and rabies depending on the route | Forest borders, not Phuket or Koh Samui | Japanese encephalitis: a month or more, or a lot of rural time |
| India | Typhoid, hepatitis A (even on short trips) | Much of the country, including Delhi and Mumbai; no risk above 2,000 m | Yellow fever if you come from a risk country |
| Peru | Yellow fever (jungle/Amazon), hepatitis A | Jungle; not the classic Cusco circuit in the same way | Altitude is a separate problem (it is not a vaccine) |
| Colombia | Yellow fever in some regions, hepatitis A | Focal | Confirm the itinerary, not just “Colombia” |
| South Africa | Hepatitis A; yellow fever mainly if the flight passes through an endemic country | North-east (Kruger and around), not Cape Town | Malaria is not “the whole country” |
| Vietnam | Hepatitis A, typhoid | Focal, not the typical city circuit | Japanese encephalitis if rural or long |
| Mexico / Jamaica / Maldives / Uruguay / Japan | Routine vaccines + hepatitis A in several of these | Usually no (focal exceptions in Mexico) | Food-borne risk is not the same as malaria |
Where to be vaccinated after the consultation
The jab, when it is yellow fever or another travel vaccine given on the international circuit, is at an International Vaccination Centre in Portugal. Yellow fever certificate is valid 10 days after the dose. City notes (in Portuguese): Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Braga, Algarve.
If your vaccine record is from another country, bring it. The consultation checks what is documented.
Frequently asked questions
Which vaccines do I need to travel from Portugal?
It depends on the itinerary, not only the country, and not on whether you are Portuguese. There are vaccines required for entry (often yellow fever), vaccines recommended because of risk (hepatitis A, typhoid), and routine vaccines. The travel consultation sets the plan and issues the prescription for the vaccination centre.
Where do I get the vaccines in Portugal?
At International Vaccination Centres, with a prescription. Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Braga and the Algarve each have a guide. CUF does not give the yellow fever circuit.
I live in Portugal but I am not Portuguese. Is this the same?
Yes. These pages assume you are leaving from Portugal. The consultation is in English. The prescription is a Portuguese electronic prescription, sent by SMS or email.
