Getting there: by car on the EN125 or the A22, about 25 minutes. The Algarve railway links Lagos and Portimão in 20 minutes; the CVI is about 5 minutes by car from Portimão station.

The Lagos marina is a departure point for yachts heading to the Canaries, Cape Verde, the Caribbean and Brazil. For long passages, the consultation covers vaccines, an onboard medical kit and a plan for illness far from land.
At the Portimão CVI, consultations are on Thursday and Friday and vaccination on Monday to Wednesday, 9:30 to 12:00. Arriving with a prescription means you skip the consultation day and book the vaccine morning directly.

Questions from Lagos
We are crossing the Atlantic via Cape Verde. Do we need yellow fever?
Cape Verde only asks for it if you arrive from a risk country. If you then sail on to Brazil or French Guiana, the doctor decides; French Guiana requires it for everyone.
Can I get the vaccine on a Thursday in Portimão?
No. Thursday and Friday are consultation days; vaccination is Monday to Wednesday mornings. Faro vaccinates every weekday if those mornings do not work.
Do I need an SNS number (número de utente)?
Not for the online consultation, which is private. Some CVIs ask for it when you book the vaccine; if you do not have one yet, say so in your email.
Is the prescription accepted at the Portimão CVI – Public Health Unit?
Yes. It is a Portuguese prescription, valid at every International Vaccination Centre (CVI) in Portugal and at Portuguese pharmacies. Some CVIs ask you to bring a printed copy on the day.
How much is the yellow fever vaccine?
20 € at the CVI, paid separately from the consultation. The international certificate is issued there and becomes valid 10 days after the vaccine, for life.
