Companies › Burnout prevention programme for companies
I'm a startup founder working too many hours and I can't switch off
Updated · Lon Clinic
Short answer: not being able to switch off is one of the first signs of founder burnout. The fix isn't willpower; it's limits the company can survive without you for a few hours a day. Start with a fixed end to your day, one day a week without email, and one person who decides when you're not there.
Why it's so hard for founders
- The company seems to depend on you alone.
- Identity and company blur: failing at work feels like failing as a person.
- Investors and the team create constant urgency.
A 30-day plan
- Week 1: fixed finish time, notifications off after it.
- Week 2: hand 3 decisions to someone on the team.
- Week 3: one day a week without email or Slack.
- Week 4: check sleep, energy and mood. If nothing has improved, get a medical and psychological assessment.
